Watch The World Is Flat

Probably worth at least $1,000.00 to see him talk live.

Digest all 627 pages of the book in one hour by watching the author speak for FREE in iTunes University. In one of the most important book of the decade, Thomas Friedman argues why the World is Flat.

It lasted the whoooole day

I just had one of the longest meetings yesterday. It took my whole Saturday and it was a complete waste of time.

Except that it wasn't.

I think time was misspent if you judged by the output. But the meeting was not about getting things done. It was about getting to know you better.

I now know that my potential partner is very keen on details. I now know that their organization works very hard for every peso. I know that they will take good care of my brands when they're in the field. I know that that they want healthier products, and that they want to live healthier lives. I now know that The Boss used to reside in the San Francisco but prefers the Philippines because he doesn't like the cold.

And we both know that maybe we can work together.

I hate long meetings. I never conduct one. But yesterday was different. It was his style and his ways. And I respect that. I think this is one fundamental difference in doing business in Asia.

There are 63,314 books in Amazon solely on how to do meetings effectively. If you follow them word for word, you're dead. Realize that yesterday was not a meeting, it was hello.

Why do Filipinos clap during landings?

It happened again.

Upon landing in Manila from Los Angeles, the whole four hundred or so Filipinos clapped joyfully as the plane taxied to the gate. This happens all the time.

It makes me proud being a Filipino. It erases ideas in my head that everyone wants to leave. It gives me a greater sense of community - something we badly need in this country.

On Steve Jobs

I've read a lot of articles about him, but the recent article by Wired Magazine, "How Apple Got Everything Right by Doing Everything Wrong." is a good read.

And to quote: "He (Steve Jobs) can make the task of designing a power supply feel like a mission from God."

On a personal note, I swear I purchased my Apple stuff last week in their Fashion Show store from an Apple Geek with an Apple Logo neatly TATTOOED on the back of his neck. What deep and primal reason makes you tattoo your company's logo to yourself?
