I just had one of the longest meetings yesterday. It took my whole Saturday and it was a complete waste of time.
Except that it wasn't.
I think time was misspent if you judged by the output. But the meeting was not about getting things done. It was about getting to know you better.
I now know that my potential partner is very keen on details. I now know that their organization works very hard for every peso. I know that they will take good care of my brands when they're in the field. I know that that they want healthier products, and that they want to live healthier lives. I now know that The Boss used to reside in the San Francisco but prefers the Philippines because he doesn't like the cold.
And we both know that maybe we can work together.
I hate long meetings. I never conduct one. But yesterday was different. It was his style and his ways. And I respect that. I think this is one fundamental difference in doing business in Asia.
