I jumped out of an airplane today

As a child, I've always wanted to fly. This is the third best thing. A close second would be Space Travel - perhaps in a few more years.

This is me trying to smile falling at 200Kph from 12,000 feet

I'm getting old

Feels very different. I can't describe how it feels to get a Facebook invite from my seven year old first born.

Subtle Signals of Slowdown

The freeways are still flooded with cars. Coke still has 20+ variants in the shelves. US is still the US in many ways, but the signs of a slowdown are more subtle. Here's what I found today:

Slots and in this case a wing of a mall is closed.

Two fast food stalls in high end Victoria Gardens, one of them I bought from last year are now gone.

You need a quarter to answer the call of nature in Vons - a decent supermarket.

Also police visibility is a lot less - that's why I don't have a photo.

Someone asked me yesterday how are the prices of stuff. If not the same, it actually went higher. Those who are selling non-commodity items can't make it on volume this time, so prices are going up.

My aunt who used to frequent Vons now go to WalMart and Food4Less. Hold on to your Dollar! - is the dominant theme.

Quote of the Week

"Real obstacles don't take you in circles. They can be overcome. Invented ones are like a maze." - Barbara Sher, Author

I've had my share of obstacles in life. With problems, it's not that you don't know what to do next, often times deep inside you're scared to move. And you create your own monsters. And then you go around in circles.

Face your monsters, face your fears and kick them in the ass!

An Exciting California Morning!

It's 5am and I'm jet lagged in California.

I was forcing myself to sleep to adjust faster, but seeing that my iPhone registers my favorite hour of the day, I couldn't help but jump out of bed, make coffee and do my routine.

It's cooler than I'm normally used to, it's around 8 degrees C as I type and I'm expecting the sun to come out any minute now.

I'm in California for quality time with the family and a bit of market study on the side. What I have observed is that being so much involved in what I do, I couldn't help but find inspiration and stimuli from everything else connected to what I do. The US is a basket-full of ideas, concepts and products. Me going to a big supermarket here is like a five-year old going to Disneyland! It's a big treat!

I know that the US is in a slowdown, but I'm sure there are a lot of things I'd learn.

Later today I'm going to Natural Products Expo West and I'll try to find more remarkable things.
